Leadhill Primary School

Learning together moving forward

About Us

Affectionately known as 'the hidden gem of the Castlereagh Hills', Leadhill is a controlled primary school for boys and girls in Primary 1 to Primary 7. The Leadhill Pre-school Playgroup provides places for children from 2 years and 10 months. Leadhill has served the community for more than 50 years and is known for its outstanding pastoral care and high academic achievements.

The interior of the school has been modernised in recent years to enhance the learning experiences of all pupils, including height adjustable touch boards and creative learning and nurturing spaces. The school site, with impressive views over Belfast, has a range of large play equipment and playground markings to maximise children's play opportunities outdoors. The Top Playground has a fortress where children can take in the stunning views over the city, a large grass and wooded area for energetic or quieter play, and a large tarmac area for sports, games and exercise. The Lower Playground has a super-slide, an outdoor classroom and a range of equipment to encourage balance, climbing and imagination. In addition, the smaller outdoor learning areas provide opportunities to take learning outdoors throughout the year.

Wrap-Around care is available each school day to the pupils in Leadhill. Each school day, Breakfast Club runs from 8am and After School Club from 2pm to 6pm. The club is run by Leadhill staff, providing continuity of care for all children.

Children can take part in a range of afterschool activities ranging from skateboarding to ballet. Music plays an important role in Leadhill, with tuition in drumming, piano and guitar as well as an active choir and choral group.

The present enrolment is 160 pupils. There are 9 teachers, including part-time staff and a Principal.

The teaching staff bring a variety of interests, training, specialisms and academic qualifications that enrich the quality of education on offer.

The teaching staff are assisted by a highly motivated team of support staff that include the school clerical officer, building supervisor, classroom assistants, catering staff and supervisory assistants.

The children are at the heart of the school's vision and philosophy. The school motto is "Learning Together Moving Forward", created following a collaborative learning activity within the school.  Children in Leadhill are nurtured and supported to achieve excellent academic results within a broadly based curriculum. Leadhill is a caring and supportive environment. All staff work very hard to build a positive and encouraging ethos where individuals can gain independence and confidence and take responsibility.

Leadhill Primary School is a happy community where every child's individual circumstances matter.
