At Leadhill the welfare and happiness of the child is central to our ethos. We aim to provide a friendly and caring environment where children are happy in their learning. We aim to raise the self-esteem of all our pupils and help them feel secure in the knowledge that they are valued members of our school community.
This is fostered in several ways, including:
Positive Behaviour
We adopt a positive approach to discipline, frequently praising and ‘rewarding’ children for good behaviour.
We encourage our pupils to have:
· Self respect
· Respect for others and their property
· Respect for the environment
· Tolerance and appreciation of the opinions of others
· Good manners and politeness
Celebrating Achievement
Our weekly school assembly is used as an opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of our pupils. Our ‘Leadhill Leader’ award system is presented fortnightly to a child in each year group. We recognise children who have embraced our school ethos through their actions and attitudes. Our 'Class of the Month’ trophy is presented to the class who we feel have worked well as a team and positively contributed to the life of our school.
Buddy System
Our 'P7 Buddies' are on duty each day in the playground where they support play activities and promote positive attitudes and interactions.
School Council
Our School Councillors are elected from Primary 4 to 7 and meet regularly to represent the views of their classmates and make positive changes to the school.
Roles and Responsibilities
The older children in our school take on a range of roles and responsibilities, encouraging them to make positive contributions to enhance the life of the school. Roles such as Librarians, Buddies, House Captains and Vice Captains, Recycling Monitors, Eco-Elves and School Councillors. They contribute to the smooth running of the school as well as giving pupils opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork and organisational skills.
Our children from P4-P7 have the chance to be Digital Leaders helping pupils and teacher alike with their digital devices.
